I bought one of these about six months ago but mine is an Ame's brand but they are identical so now I'm not sure who actually makes these reels, Ame's or Jackson. Anyway it is a great product. I use Craftsman rubber garden hoses and have a 100 foot 5/8,s inch hose on the reel. Now these hoses are a lot heavier than the cheap plastic ones but they remain flexible year round which is why I like them. They are also guaranteed for life. The drawback of a heavy hose is that when I get 50 feet or so of hose pulled out the hose reel tips over which is very aggravating. The solution is to anchor it to the ground or make it a lot heavier. I chose the latter. I went to the lumber store and got a two foot square cement patio block and several caulking tubes of liquid nails construction adhesive. Just by chance I found some two foot square 3/4 inch pieces of marine grade plywood. I glued the plywood to the patio block and let it set for a day. I then fastened the hose reel to the plywood and that eliminated the tip over problem. The patio block weighs 75 lbs. so with the hose and reel its probably close to 100 lbs. I'm pretty sure it will stay put in a hurricane. When pulling the hose out of the reel it works very smoothly and winding the hose back up is just as smooth. The hose guide go's back and forth to keep the hose wrapped very evenly. The instructions say to lube the guide about once a month and also the hose connection to the faucet with some Vaseline petroleum jelly but I have some silicone grease and that is what I use. The hose connection is very easy to remove by sliding the hose clip down. I like that feature as it makes that much easier to maintain. Another nice feature is that the lid flips up so if you inadvertently wind the hose all the way in you can just open the lid and insert it back into the guide. Its also handy when you want to lube the guide. Ive tried some of the cheaper garden hose reels over the years but they just don't hold up. Now granted they are not giving these things away but I would rather pay extra for a hose reel that will last many years instead of having to replace it every couple of years. I have another Ame's hose reel in the back yard that I have had for about 12 years and it still works great. Its made out of heavy duty plastic but its durability and quality construction sold me on the Ame's (Jackson?) brand. Like I said earlier figure out a way to anchor it down so it doesn't tip over. I didn't deduct any stars for that because I solved that problem and as far as I know any hose reel that sits on the ground is going to have the same problem. I'm very happy with mine and wouldn't think twice about buying another one if I needed one.
