Savio 26W UVinex System Review

I bought this UV clarifier for my front 1000 gallon koi pond. A week ago my pond was so full of green that I could only see my koi when they came up to the top few inches. Today I can see the bottom of the pond with almost perfect clarity and it's over 4 feet deep.

I installed it inside my large savio skimmer, and blocked off one side of the filter so the water would only run through the side with the UV light (the savio skimmer actually has room for two of the UV lights, one on each side). It took about 2 days for me to start noticing a difference and about a week to get the pond clear. I have 2 pumps though, A main pump that comes with the savio filter that runs the waterfall and pushes a pretty large amount of water, which is set to run only intermittently, and a smaller 1000 gallon per hour pump that I have running all the time that pushes water to the bottom of the pond to keep the bottom of the pond oxygenated. I know the UV filter works best with a certain amount of water flowing past it. If you don't get results I might suggest either slowing that down or speeding it up.

The product was easy enough to install except the the cable between the light and the transformer is only a few feet long and my power source is a good 10 feet away. I had to splice the cable and run it underground, but that wasn't particularly problematic, though the mess of wires would make any good electrician wince.

Not sure how long the light will last some reviews suggest it should be replaced yearly, but I'm thinking of turning it off now that my pond is clear and only using the light occasionally when the pond gets cloudy.

So far I'm very impressed with the UV light. I still have a pretty large amount of algae covering the surfaces of my pond but the water is perfectly clear. Which is really all I wanted or expected of the UV light. My only annoyance was the length of the power cable. I'm glad I didn't need to resort to chemicals to keep my pod clean.
