So far, so good. Keeps our entire pond clear of ice, unlike previous products that only keep a section clear of ice. Wish I had known initially that it required the separate ''cage'' since I ended up ordering this separately. We have had problems in past with the metal deicers failing to work/corrode in their joints after 1-2 winters, so we are hoping that the uniform plastic exterior of this will be more durable.
