We purchased this Crystal Pond Professional Pond Skimmer for our 3000 gallon above-ground pond a year ago, as a companion product for two Savio 100 Waterfall Filters. It's manufactured by Beckett and sold and shipped by Amazon, at a great price which was 40% less than the same unit found at the primary pond suppliers here in the Dallas area. And shipping was free with Amazon Prime.

Although the skimmer can be buried in the ground and used like a traditional skimmer for an in-ground pond, our pond is above ground ... which presents major problems if you want to use a high capacity skimmer. And so we placed the entire unit in the pond, and attached it to a 2 inch pvc output pipe and a 5000 gallon per hour external pump. Awesome. Simply awesome. It is the easiest and most effective skimmer I have ever owned. The leaf basket is super-large and very easy to remove and clean. The pond sits underneath a huge deciduous white oak tree,and it sucks those leaves up easily. The ultra-large and thick brushes behind the basket are amazing in terms of what they catch from the water (uneaten food, non-leaf debris, miscellaneous algae, etc.) Love this skimmer. Highly recommended. I have no negatives to report. Only a rave review!

At the same time, I also bought two large capacity 'Savio 100 Waterfall Filters' through an Amazon Vendor (Aquatic Ponds) which came complete with hundreds of feet of biological filter ribbon in each filter, at 45% of the price found in retail pond suppliers here in Dallas. Shipping was FREE, and communication with the vendor was superior. These Savio Waterfall Filters are perfect companions to the Crystal Ponds skimmer which is the primary focus of this review. The two Savio filters (run conjointly by a 5000 gallon per hour external pump) are functionally superior to the large 'sand filters' which we ran for 16 years in our Koi ponds using a variety of state of the art bio- and particulate filtering agents. I would never have believed it possible. The water is still crystal clear after 6 months with large koi in residence, using the Savio filters filled with permanent ('never replace') bio-ribbon with two coarse foam post-filters on top of the ribbon, All I add to the water (aside from dechlorinator) is Ultra-Lift PL once a month after a 10 percent water change, to seed the bio-ribbon.

I will always make such major pond purchases through Amazon, based upon these rewarding experiences.
