These water spikes really work and are very cheap. I am buying two more sets. All you have to do is put a teaspoon of water absorbing crystals such as Soil Moist in a 2L soda bottle and add water. The crystals will expand to the consistency of chunks of Jello to slow down the rate of flow of the water. Also, you might add a little liquid fertilizer in the bottle. Next water your plant container until the soil is completely moist. Finally screw the cone on the bottle and insert the bottle cone end down into the soil. As the soil dries water will slowly be drawn from the bottle. A 2L bottle should last at least a week if not much longer.
