Camco 22484 Water Bandit Review

I have had two of these. One in use, and one as a spare.

I frequently have the need to connect to a water source at campgrounds which do not have threads on the water spigots (to deter campers from permanently hooking up to them). When is is time to refill the tanks on my RV, the only option would be to go to the filling area (typically near the dump station) which is an area I avoid for potable water.

The spigots in many campgrounds, especially National Forest Service facilites have a tapered nose and you can not connect to a hose. By sliding one of these water bandits over the tapered nose, you can connect a hose for refilling your tank. I also have at hand, some hose clamps to cinch down the rubber fitting onto the spigot. This is especially handy if the spigot has an automatic spring shut-off on the handle, so if you release your hand from the handle, it shuts off. Without the hose clamp, your hands are full, one to hold the spring valve open and the other to hold the water bandit on the tapered end. Otherwise, the high water pressure will blow off the bandit.

I purchased a second, which is a spare and it hasn't need to be relied on, though there is the potential. The brass male threaded end will peel off the rubber sleeve if stressed too much. I was able to put mine back together, but it does have a potential for failure. I depend on the ability to hook up when primitive camping so by having a spare, I am confident I will not be left in a bind without water.

I would have given this item 5 stars if I was confident I would not need a spare to overcome the possiblity of failure between the brass and rubber portions. If you will be using this item for hooking up to a water source with no other options, I recommend you buy two, one for use, and one as a spare.
