After reading the reviews, I reluctantly ordered this power hose reel. Initially I experienced the same impossible task of trying to unwind the hose.

The problem was solved after charging the battery. I ran the reel empty of hose continuously for 30-40 minutes. This stretched and loosened the drive belt.

I then recharged the battery, and the hose reel now works perfectly.

I suggest not reeling the hose until you operate the reel for an extended time.

Under the conditions I have given above, this power hose reel is highly recommended.

Pros:

- Every part of this device is well-made of [nearly] 100% rust-proof materials. E.g., the frame and reel-body are 1/10" thick cast aluminum, the swivel mechanism is brass, the tires are rubber, and it uses stainless steel hardware and brass fittings.

- The painting on my reel is flawless.

- Brass swivel has a 3/4" inside diameter for maximum water flow.

- 10-year no-leakage guarantee; probably the only brand with such a warranty. (Register your reel on-line at Rapid Reel.)

- Large 10" rubber tires provide smooth and easy mobility, and need no air since they are rigid-foam filled. They can't go flat.

- A solid full-palm design reel handle spins freely on a stainless steel shaft for easy rewinding. Handle is a very tough synthetic material, with a thick aluminum bracket.

- The included 5/8" feeder hose (connecting the reel to a faucet) is high quality, made with weather-resistant rubber, and is 5' long. It has brass fittings and some kind of spiral synthetic reinforcement thread.

- Maintenance free axle bushings (5/8" diameter solid aluminum), allow easy rolling and should last the life of the unit, and it stays put when you stop.

- The hose reel by itself weighs 30 pounds, so when you unroll or roll up, the hose, the unit usually stays put. It might move if there isn't much hose on the reel, but putting your foot on the front support member stabilizes the cart.

Cons:

- Lacks a hose guide, which would be helpful when rewinding. We keep a rag nearby and hold the hose with the rag when rewinding to guide it on the reel neatly.

- Lacks a shelf, which, on our much cheaper Ames hose reel, we keep nozzle accessories.

- This is really minor, but the feeder hose should be 3/4" instead of 5/8", as Rapid Reel used on their reels several years back. That way, there would be no water restrictions when using 3/4" hose.

- Expensive.

Other:

- Holds 150' of 5/8" hose or 100' of 3/4" hose. An optional kit widens the reel to accommodate up to 225' of 5/8" hose or 175' of 3/4" hose.

- From the factory, the wheels have 3/16" in/out play on the axle. To reduce that play, I installed two 1/16" thick, 5/8" stainless steel washers on the axle, one on each side of the wheel.

- An optional 4-wheel kit is available.

- Before you leave it outside in below freezing temperatures, follow Rapid Reel's instructions for draining all water from the swivel and hose. It's best to store it inside during the winter or at least cover it to protect the finish. If you forget to winterize it, and freezing water (which expands) damages the swivel, the entire plumbing (feeder hose & swivel) can be replaced. Rapid Reel sells parts.

Summary:

Rapid Reel models are almost certainly the finest garden hose reel carts on the market. I rated this model at 4 stars because it lacks a hose guide and shelf, but those issues may not be important to you. In fact, when our remaining Ames wall-mount hose reel falls apart, another Rapid Reel product will replace it.

I got this timer to water my vegetable garden while I am at work or on vacation. It is very easy to use and set up, and feels very sturdy and well made. I only have 2 complaints: It was not clear from this page that you can not time 3 zones with this product - only 2! The outlet on the left is a manual override that you can turn on and off whenever you want to just use your hose. It would also be nice if I could program it to water at, say noon, and again at 3. My garden often dries out severely during this time. The only options are every six hours, every 12 hours, and then by days (2,3,4,5,6, and 7 days).

Other than that, I am pleased with the purchase and will simply have to find work arounds to these issues.

GARDENA 1973 Aquazoom 2700-Square Foot Oscillating Sprinkler with Fully Adjustable Width Control Review

Just purchased a model 1973, the one with both adjustable sweep and width, no pressure regulator. Couldn't tell from the Amazon info if the sprinkler came with a female coupler for the hose or not, so I purchased a Gardena hose outlet end coupler ($5.10 with USPS shipping). Save your money - there was one in the box with the sprinkler. At least there was in mine. Also, the male coupler in the sprinkler unscrews and a standard hose end fits, but the plastic sprinkler might not stand too much attaching and removing. There was no separate instruction sheet or booklet, but the parts diagram printed on the box makes everything quite clear. The sprinkler is actually made in Germany.

Attaching: I put the sprinkler on a home made stand above a bed of shrubs so it has the weight of the hose hanging off the coupler. We'll see how it lasts. Frame and barrel seem quite sturdy, good plastic rather than cheesy. Coupler is a strong and tight fit. Base seems very light but I used plastic cable ties to fasten it down and it feels quite rigid.

Adjusting: Totally simple. The sweep limiters operate independently so each side can be customized for range. The width of the fan adjusts easily with a dial on each end of the nozzle row, so again each side of the fan can be adjusted. Nice.

Operating: Works very well even at low pressures. One nozzle was not working well but cranking the pressure up to full cleared it immediately. Very easy to duck in while it's working and make adjustments.

Maintenance: We'll see how it lasts. Others have complained about the limited life of these sprinklers. One nice touch is that the Gardena sprinklers are made to be dismantled easily by the owner to clean them, not a common feature in our throw-away world. Our municipal water isn't terribly hard here and this sprinkler only runs a few times a week so I expect decent performance.

Gilmour Polymer Hose Mender 01HM Review

good price and easy to install. not very durable. 1st one stripped out the threads with very little torque on the screw driver. the next one i just snugged the screws with another 1/8th turn past snug to avoid stripping. after 2 days use and about 15 minutes use per day the little sucker popped off the hose. Catch-22, tighten enough to hold and risk stripping the threads, don't tighten so much and it won't stay on. I'll stick to slightly more expensive metal fittings and standard hose clamp type repair kits. my 2 cents, hope it's useful.

Novelty 30702 Plastic Watering Can, Sky Blue, 1-Gallon Review

There are 2 SMALL holes to fill up the can. One larger one would have been better. The faucet in my sinks hits half the hole and half the piece separating the two holes.
When full poor very slowly, or it will spill out of the holes on top.
There are grades to show you 1 Gal and 2 Gal... but the container is not see through, so you can't tell how much water is in it.
I do like the narrow spout and the curve of the spout.
I would not buy it again, but I did not return it as I like the capacity.
