I really appreciate the lower wattage needed to power this tank heater. When you are heating several water troughs it made a significant difference to my electric bill. With the water flow of the filter & the heater this worked even in negative temperatures. We do have our outdoor tanks insulated to aid this too as we live in an area that negative temps are common in the winter. I also like the way it is enclosed in the filter housing since we have floating covers on the tanks to help insulate & cut down on evaporation. Now I don't have to worry about the heater coming in direct contact with the cover.
