(FYI: The model that I got is black and grey, instead of the green and grey that's in the picture here, but they're apparently the same model.)

I bought this, and I just screwed it in, right between the spigot and where the hose would screw on,... now I have no trouble ever ever again with me forgetting and leaving the sprinkler on, or me thinking I've turned the water off because I turned it off at the nozzle but the connections on the hoses in between are still spraying/dripping. (I don't even want to think how many tens of thousands of gallons I wasted before I got this.)

It's like a mechanical kitchen egg timer: Turn the dial (max time is two hours), and it lets the water through uninterrupted, and it counts down-- and instead of going DING like the egg timer, it makes a little click and the water is *completely* shut off: Even if the spigot is on at full pressure, not a drop gets through.

You should get this even if you only occasionally would want to use it-- it has a little button that bypasses the timer and lets thru the water uninterrupted and untimed, just as if this timer weren't there. Whenever you want to actually use the timing feature, you just flick the button back, and the timer is ready.

I put mine right at the spigot, but you could also put this on the other end: between the sprinkler and the hose-- or somewhere inline, where two hoses would connect.

(About egg timers: this is only a little larger than an egg timer, is only a bit heavier than one... and it costs barely more than one!)
