Apex REM 15 15-Foot Connector Hose Remnants, Colors May Vary Review

Not sure why they are called 'remnants', these are 15' hoses with fittings on each end. I received two different types of hose material, apparently these are the ends of long rolls the factory cannot use in longer lengths.

These hoses are actually fairly inexpensive. The hose material is mid-range quality, and the hose fittings (one male, one female) are decent but not highest quality.

I bought several and am using them for areas that already have a long hose but with plants near the faucet, so the long hose can stay on the outer parts and this shorter hose can water the nearby plants. However, 15' doesn't go very far, so practical use is limited.

I am using two to extend existing 100' hoses that are just a few feet short. Beats adding another 25' hose to the 100'er.

All in all, useful at a bargain price. I have more on order.

UPDATE Aug 27, 2009 -
I have purchased a dozen or so of these and have been using them all summer during 100+F degree hot sun. I haven't had a single problem with any of them. The one hose that did develop a mesquite thorn leak was a high quality rubber hose. Sometimes cheaper semi-hard vinyl like these win in the end.

Still 5 star happy !

My stupid neighbors dont obey the leash laws, and let their pets roam free. I was constantly having to clean cat and dog mess from my yard. It was so bad that when I would mow my lawn the tires of the lawnmower would be totally covered in brown matter, if you know what I mean. So I figured I would give the scarecrow a try. Works great, I have on video two dogs going into my yard to do their business, then the scarecrow blasts them point blank in the face with water. It was Hilarious, one of the dogs took off, but the other one panicked and ran around the circles not knowing how to get out of my yard through the fence, even though my gate was wide open. The dogs haven't been in my yard since. I seen cats get blasted with water too. My neighbors are mad though, because their dogs are now messing in their own yard, and everytime they walk in their yard they step in it, very funny. One thing that needs to be improved though is battery life, 9 volt batteries have very little capacity and go dead in less than a month if the unit goes off alot. It would be great if the unit could run on 4 D cells, then the scarecrow could run more than a year on one set of batteries. I bought lithium rechargeables in order to save money, plus they last longer than alkaline 9 volt batteries. Overall great product and alot of fun to watch it work.

Gilmour 13 Brass 2-Way Connector Review

I purchased one of these around 2 years ago at local HW place, to find out Gilmour had moved to China. Gilmour used to be very good quality, but not anymore. Apparently most everyone has gone to China and the quality of these valves has really gone downhill, but not the price they charge you. This valve is really cheap and can't take much pressure and it got a pin hole leak in the valve after about 2 years and I foolishly replaced it with another one, to have it blow it out six months later as it was the only Y valve the HW had and I needed another one ASAP. I use quite a few Y valves/hose splitters and 4 way splitters, so the 'search' was on to find something better.

Here is how I rate the valves now after ordering them and studying them and using them.

BEST

1. Camco-Y ball Valve/ hose spliter. Made in the USA, solid , solid brass with amazing full sized ball valves. High flow. Designed to also fit RV. Commercial grade valve! Hands down winner and same price as the Gilmour and made in the USA. Available on Amazon. This is superb valve.

2. Achla Designs. Made in Taiwan but very solid and heavy. For commercial use. Available on Amazon. This is a great valve.

3. Orbit Y ball Valve /splitter - Much thicker than Gilmour valve. And much cheaper. Made in China. Available on Amazon. This is a pretty good valve.

4. Nelson Y ball valve/splitter-Nelson went to China not to long ago. Current valves are very lightweight and not suitable for commercial use. Orbit splitters are heavier and better made. Available on Amazon. This is acceptable if you turn the Hose bibb off and have lower pressure water lines.

5 Melnor, more cheap made in China stuff, quality is not as good as Nelson made in China stuff largely as Nelson is has better finish quality. Available on Amazon. This is similar to the Nelson.

6. Ray Padula- More made in China that is suitable for gardening but not commercial use. All of Rays Products are made in China and are very expensive. He's kind of what is wrong with the USA, marketing hype and advertising then off-shoring to sweat shops and delivering poor quality and hoping you're 'dumb' as he rolls in the money . Ray should have gone to college to learn mechanical engineer and manufacturing and learned what it means to be an American manufacturer. Give a 'lifetime' guarantee to try and convince you its worth the time to drive and pick up a new valve. His prices indicate he expects 2.5 valves to fail in your lifetime. Buy Camco and pay once and less and get made in the USA!!! Let Ray move to China, the Chinese want made in the USA for their own gardens.

I wish someone with an engineering background or industrial background would write these reviews, but the made in China crowd would not make as much money replacing their blown out valves.

I don't know why DRAMM does not make a Y valve or Hose splitter or if they do, why Amazon does not carry it. Amazon carries some of their high quality nozzles and hose disconnects that are made in the USA and high quality. DRAMM is the best when it comes to brass. Camco is the next best quality you're going to find.

Stay away from that Made in China stuff, we send them fake money, with Pictures of dead Presidents and they send us fake valves that break down. Made in Taiwan quality is pretty good if you cant find American or Canadians products.

Apex 8640-50 NeverKink Series 3000 Extra Heavy-Duty 5/8-Inch by 50-Feet Hose Review

If you're looking for a hose that won't wear out: do yourself a favor and buy the NeverKink Extra Heavy Duty (series 3000) in your preferred length.

Summer 2011 I purchased two of the 100 foot lengths, this summer I needed to add a fifty foot to my collection. This 50 foot hose is just as durable as it's 100 foot (series 3000) cousins.

There are two things about this hose that make it better than any other hose I've ever used.
1. An aside to a thick, strong hose it that it holds pressure very well. I haven't noticed any pressure difference whether using a 100 foot, this 50 foot, or even my short 10 foot (non-neverkink brand).
2. Despite the name "NeverKink" it's entirely possible to get a kink in the hose (I've done it a few times dragging it back and forth). But from my using it I'll readily say it's extremely kink-resistant.
But when it does kink - and here's where this hose outshines every other hose - a quick hose flip gets the kink out...AND YOU CAN'T TELL THERE EVER WAS A KINK! Every other hose I've used once you get a kink it creates a wear spot in the hose which makes it more susceptible to future kinks in that same spot.

The latter point is why I'll only buy NeverKink hoses.

I've used this hose for over a year out on my deck. I like to drink out of the hose when I'm watering my garden and so I got this hose for that reason. I'm delighted with it. I have many kinds of hoses on the farm here but this is my favorite. I'm in a wheelchair and the smaller diameter makes for easy handleing and a small "bump" when I roll over it. I have never had it kink. Ever. After a summer/winter/summer all outdoors I can wipe the surface and it looks brand new. No signs of any wear. Get this hose and I think you'll be very pleased. If you let your kids play with a garden hose they WILL drink out of it. Better safe than sorry. A nice product.
