We've had Gardena manual timers for several years now, and several other brands like Orbit, Claber, Melnor and the new Dripworks timers. This is because we have several gardens, each with its own timer. All have worked well for the first year. The Orbit timer was useless after one year. It kept randomly sticking in the open position, not a good thing when your water is on a costly system. The Claber was a 4 tap, battery powered unit. It worked ok for a few years, then started sticking as well. The others just leaked or were awkward to use and started sticking in their third year of use.Throughout all of this only our Gardena timers kept on going. The only failures we've had with these timers has been due to age and abuse. This is the only timer that I have peace of mind with and will continue to buy as long as Gardena makes them. They don't like to be left outdoors, drain well and put them in a tempered dry location for the winter. And they don't last for ever, but I expect about 5yrs with daily use in the summer. Though we have one that is still working fine after 7 years. In operation and dependability, they are a class above the average cheap timer on the market today. We tried a new Dripworks model and even new I don't like it. It feels like a crude imitation of the smooth operation that the Gardena provides. It's going back and we're here to replace it with a Gardena.
