RAINWAVE WATER TIMER .. SAVE WATER - FLOW METER Review

The name of this product is flow meter and I suppose there is some confusion on that term. I was looking at "flow meters" that cost a lot more money and figured I didn't want to spent that much since I'm not an irrigation professional. The price on this unit was so low that I figured there has to be a difference between the "flow meters" I was looking at and this product. So, here is the difference.

Flow meters that I was looking at provide a direct reading of gallons per minute flowing through the meter. This product simply gives you the number of gallons (or liters) that have flowed through the meter since the reset button was pressed or the flow started. There are two reset buttons so you can made two different cumulative measurements. But, to get gallons per minute, which is the goal for irrigation calculations, you just need to add a stopwatch. In my case, I ran the water, hit the reset button and started the stop watch and ran the water for five minutes. That time period allowed my well pump to cycle a couple of times so I got an accurate measure of the flow over the pressure cycle of the system. Now, do the math and you get gallon per minute. In my case, I got 5.9 gallons per minute, which is more or less what I expected and now I can do my irrigation design based on that. Simple.

For the price, this was a perfect solution for me and I recommend it. The true "flow meters" i was looking at ran around $100 and require a little knowledge to use correctly. Along with my wrist watch, this unit was a breeze and gave me the information I needed at a bargain price. For the do it yourself-er, this is the simple answer.

We also bought the Dramm Oscillating sprinkler and love both of them. The Melnor has some plastic on the connector, but even with our high water pressure and frequent use, it works beautifully. Gilmour 17 Twin Shut-Off Valves Hose Connector, Teal/Black Review

I had one of these put ahead of a Gilmour 9400 timer on a hose bib connection. BAD IDEA. The timer shut-off causes a lot of water hammer and this broke the tee. That is, the hammer, after about a month, caused a crack in the tee that allowed a LOT of water leakage.

If you're just looking for a tee for convience then this is a nice one. The knobs on the valve are big and easy to use.

Just DO NOT use it in a constant supply situation where there will be any sort of hard shut off as the plastic WILL crack.

Claber 8458 Faucet To Garden Hose Quick Connector Set Review

The Claber quick-connect system works very well. It is similar to the Gardena system, which I personally prefer slightly over the Claber, because Gardena has the more comprehensive system.

Plastic: There is nothing wrong with the high-end plastic used in both of those systems. Many people automatically assume when something is made of metal it must hold up better. Not true. High-end plastic often performs much better than low-end metal, which easily corrodes. The best would be high-end metal fixtures, but they are generally very expensive and really only necessary for commercial or other serious irrigation needs.

Indoor vs. outdoor faucet: As some have found out, this adapter does not work with indoor faucets. To be fair, the description never mentions "indoor". The term "faucet" is general. With respect to irrigation, it generally refers to the outdoor kind that has the typical 3/4" garden-hose thread. The negative reviews thus reflect the fact that the product was bought for the wrong purpose. They say more about Amazon's product description and the confusion resulting from it, rather than how the adapter really performs. Again, with irrigation systems, generally, if it doesn't say "indoor" specifically, it means "outdoor". By the way, Claber makes a specific "Indoor Faucet To Garden Hose Adaptor" (8583), and it is clearly described as such.

A couple of tips: as with any threaded connection, wrapping teflon tape around the threads prevents any leaks right upfront. Using teflon tape is not a weakness of any kind as it is used in the most professional settings because there simply are no absolutely leak-proof connections in general. Also, the O-rings do need to be replaced every now and then. Likewise, having to replace O-rings is not a weakness of these products. Chlorine in today's water is slowly nibbling on just about anything (particularly your plants!).

The Bullseye power nozzle is a superior design that is well made from solid brass and very simple to use. The claims that it provides more water is due to its design that does not constrict the flow of water out of the hose. The nozzle directs the flow in a 'laminar' rotation producing a solid stream of water. The water jet out of the nozzle is very focused and strong. I attached the nozzle to a hose with 55 psi water pressure with outstanding results, my other hose has an unregulated water pressure of 180 psi. At this high pressure, I believe you would take paint off your car our house if you're not careful. Don't plan on using this as a gentle shower for your rose garden, it isn't designed for that. You can restrict the flow however it will produce a mist which may or may not be what you desire. This nozzle does what it claims, good job Bullseye engineers.
