I live in South Dakota and winter can be COLD. After years of using 1500 watt stock tank heaters, I decided to try one of these to save on electricity. I have one in a 100 gallon stock tank. It keeps the ice off the top down to about 10 degrees. When it gets colder, I drop a floating one in the tank. It saved me $200 on my first month's electric bill after I bought it. We have four stock tanks and I am just sorry I did not find these sooner. Last winter my electric bill was over $500, so far this winter the highest has been just under $300.

I liked this so well, I bought two to put in my five gallon bucket poultry nipple waterers. I dropped one in each bucket and They do an amazing job.
